Prevent Theft at Home - Installing New Locks

You may want to consider installing burglar bars to secure sliding glass patio doors. You may even elect to replace outer doors that are hollow with solid doors. You can use two locks. One of them should probably be a deadbolt lock. Lock kits are readily available in the styles and materials that best complement your decor. Just know that 20 locks cannot ensure that a thief will not break down the door if it is not a solid exterior door.

Your windows can be locked. Double pane windows are much less likely to be compromised by a burglar than are the older single pane windows.

One reason to deter burglars is that today the incidence of identity theft is growing. A thief uses several avenues to support his identity theft crime. He or she may steal your mail, break into your home and take away your personal information. Some identity thieves do exist among computer hackers who manage to get into your accounts and discover your passwords. Any stranger, workman or other service individual, can steal your personal information from your office, trash and mail.

There measures you will want to take to lock your personal information away from prying eyes. Besides investing in a shredder, you will want to install locks on your file cabinets to protect the documents you have to keep and cannot shred yet.

Another device that is highly recommended is a lock box or safe.

Installing a home security system can be costly since you are billed monthly for 24/7 monitoring. In addition in many cities there is a yearly licensing fee assessed on those who have monitored alarm systems because it helps to support the police protection that responds to the home alarm if it is set off.

A locked mailbox made of steel and with tumbler, tubular locks will secure your mail from theft and mailbox vandalism for years to come. Whether your mail is delivered to your front porch or to a mailbox at curbside, be sure it is locked. You alone will have the key and the mail carrier just inserts the mail through a slot at the top front of the locked mailbox.

Mailboxes that accommodate packages have a slam lock so that you just leave the package door open and the package is delivered by the mail carrier who then slams the locking package door shut. Since the package door is not the part of the mail box where mail is delivered, your mail is still securely locked.

Some mailboxes unlock with a key that is like your house key or a padlock key.

Finally, if your back yard is enclosed by a tall wood fence, you may choose to use padlocks on the gates, because a burglar knows that he cannot be watched when he is trying to rob your home.

Whatever locks you choose to use for your family's security, research carefully to be sure they are right for you.

Jane Hercules, MS Ed. is the author of this article. She has researched the varied locking mailbox options being advertised today. She is an educator who is concerned with the many reports of mail theft and subsequent identity theft all over our country today. Children are close to her heart and as a public school teacher and teacher of young children she is aware of a family's need for security.

Keeping Your Apartment Safe Includes Installing Apartment Alarms

I have found an interesting phenomenon amongst apartment renters and that is that many apartment renters are under the impression that they do not need to install an alarm system to help protect their residence from a potential break in. This is an absolute and potentially dangerous misconception. Studies continue to show that apartments are more often broken into than are single family homes and as such any apartment renter needs to seriously consider installing some kind of apartment alarm system. Such alarm systems are extremely easy to install and cost much less than one would think, making installing an apartment alarm seem like a no-brainer to me.

One of the things that make apartment alarms so much easier to install than an alarm system for a single family home is that with an apartment you usually have much fewer points of entry to concern yourself with. This certainly is the case with apartments that are not on ground level as you really only have to worry about a burglar breaking and entering through one or two doors depending on the layout of the apartment. So for example in a case where there are only two doors to worry about, one could simply hang a motion sensor alarm on each doorknob at night. If a burglar tries either door the ultra-sensitive motion alarm is sure to scare the holy heck out of him and certainly be loud enough to wake you and have you on the phone with the police in no time (hopefully in time to apprehend the low life). Compare the cost of two door guard alarms (which should run about 30 dollars combined) to installing an alarm system in a single family home (which could easily cost thousands of dollars) and the apartment costs literally a fraction of what the home security devices cost.

I was recently at a friend's apartment and noticed that he had nothing installed in the way of an alarm system. He did not even have so much as a door stop to keep potential intruders from entering his residence and when I asked him about it his reply was "I have renters insurance" and I think this is another common misconception people have. They somehow believe that renters insurance is going to keep burglars out of their home. If you are living in an apartment I beg of you not to think along the same lines as these people. Renters insurance can replace items once they have already been taken but it can never replace the sense of security you felt before a stranger came into your home. The only way to mend that feeling of insecurity is to never feel it in the first place and the best way i know how to do that is by installing an apartment alarm.

Just A Few Years Ago Installing A Home Security System Was Still Considered An Expensive Luxury

Your home is where you relax, unwind and where you feel safe. It is where your treasured belongings are that you have worked hard to acquire.

Unfortunately if your home is invaded by intruders not only do you loose some of those precious items that can never be replaced, but you can also feel that your privacy has been totally violated. In fact some home owners are so traumatised that they have to move out of their home. Considering the implications this crime can induce doesn't it make sense to consider what security system you have?

Just a few years ago installing a home security system was still considered an expensive luxury. Taking the usual precautions like checking windows and doors are securely locked before leaving home and maybe leaving lights/radio on was an every day practise for the average working person.

Crime statistics and high unemployment has increased the need for extra home security for the average household whatever area you live in.

Over recent years the demand for home security has afforded the industry to produce security systems to suit the publics' needs and their budget.

Whether you have a security system installed or not there are some simple steps you could take to improve your home security.

The most obvious is to make sure your doors and windows are securely locked when you leave your property also when you go to bed at night. Having approved locks fitted gives you that extra security as old or worn out locks can easily be broken. Never leave keys in locks or underneath mats or flower pots.

Leaving lights on inside and outside of the house can be act as a deterrent for burglars. If you go out at night draw the curtains with the light left on or buy a timer switch if you know you are not going to be home till after dark.

If there is a neighbourhood watch in your area you should consider joining as you can then display a sign to say you are a member. If there isn't a watch in your area ask your neighbours to keep a regular check on your house especially if you are away for any period of time, and you could return the favour.

Your home security can be increased just by these few actions but a professional security system fitted is a wise decision to make for peace of mind.

Top Reasons for Installing a CCTV Kit in Your Home

AppId is over the quota
AppId is over the quota

Over the years, a lot of people have taken advantage of having a CCTV camera right at their homes, businesses and workplace. Even law authorities have realised the need to have CCTV monitors in helping them solve and prevent crime. The situation at present requires families to guard the safety and security of their own homes more than ever. It is no longer enough to simply lock the doors just to keep anyone from breaking in to our homes, and having a DVR to capture any unlikely events can provide more security for the family. Read on to find out about the top reasons why it is very important to install a CCTV at home.

It Wards Off Intruders and Burglars

Having surveillance devices certainly help deter burglars from breaking into homes. Even statistics dictate that thieves will think twice about committing the crime if they see any surveillance equipment installed in and around the vicinity. They would rather go somewhere else where there is less likelihood that they will be caught. Believe it or not, a criminal would still rather go for the easier catch and would avoid a home that has increased security, as that would give them a hard time. In case that any intruder still breaks in to a house, the recorded videos from a security camera can help identify the person. The videos can be used as evidence against a person who committed any crime.

It Ensures the Safety of Children at Home

Aside from preventing intruders from getting close to any property, parents can also use CCTV cameras to watch their kids while they are away at work or travel. A lot of parents discovered the advantages of having this at home and installed devices in areas where their children often play like the pool area, backyard or the living room. This way, they can monitor the activities of the kids and find out right away if they are doing anything harmful that can hurt themselves or each other. The security system can also be used to make sure that the babysitter or nanny, as well as the repairman that was possibly hired for the day, does not steal anything from the house or worse, do anything to hurt the kids and compromise the security and safety of the residence in general.

It Can Possibly Reduce Insurance Premiums

Because of the increased security in and around the home, some people may even enjoy a discount from their home insurance companies. These companies like it if there is lesser chance that a home will be burgled, as it also means that there is a smaller possibility that the homeowner will file a claim. The decreased insurance premiums can reduce the expenses that a family must have already tons of, making a CCTV camera an extremely good investment to have nowadays.

It Allows Homeowners To Watch Their Property While They Are Away

Individuals who go away for travel or work can still watch over their homes because of a camera system. The advancements and innovations in technology now allow anyone to view feeds from a digital video recorder installed at home. Through the use of Internet, an individual can easily check what's going on at his or her property even whilst traveling. Most CCTV kits provide access to a webpage where a user can stream videos from the camera, giving anyone the peace of mind. Some people go back from a holiday, work or shopping only to find a broken antique vase in their living rooms. Having a monitoring system will allow the homeowner to find out who is responsible for events such as this.

The safety of homes and families is of utmost importance to everyone. Investing in a cctv to place at home will be a great way to protect family members and material possessions that are supposedly safe at home. The crimes rates at present make it almost necessary for everyone to employ a dvr in order to scare away criminals or to help catch them. The cctv monitors are more than just the usual equipment we see at various establishments across the country. They can also be a part of our daily lives a home.

Iain Jenkins writes articles for cctv direct, who are a supplier of cctv systems, cameras and other accessories. By using cctv monitors from CCTV Direct, security personnel can observe any suspicious activity inside a business and record it onto dvr equipment for crime prevention.

Remember how the famous Hollywood actor, Pierce Brosnan in his movie, Die another Day used the Aston Martin Vanquish? It was a special car with two little cameras on the sides of the car that would reflect what they captured the image of the scene facing the vehicle, and reflect this image on to a polymer screen, rendering the car invisible to the naked eye.

Coming back to real life, however, hidden spy cameras offer numerous benefits to a household. It is no longer considered an exaggerated action, given the increasing number of child abuse cases and break ins.

Advantages of Hidden Spy Cameras for Households

Some of the most important benefits that hidden spy cameras offer in homes include:

Nanny Surveillance

‧ Child abuse at the hands of the nanny can become the biggest nightmare for parents. Nannies are no longer the best help to come along when parents leave their children at home when they go to work. There have been increasing reports of child abuse by the nannies. Since hidden spy cameras are concealed in regular objects, they offer a great way to monitor your child's experiences while you are away. It also makes it easier for you to press charges if needed, since you have airtight evidence. The advent of hidden surveillance cameras has lowered down the cases of child abuse at the hands of nannies exponentially.

Protect Your Valuables

‧ With the help of hidden spy cameras, you will feel safer leaving the house unattended. You know that any attempt at a break in will be recorded. You will have full proof of the burglary, the picture of the criminal(s) and the time, all recorded for the authorities to take action. This also means that chances that you recover the stolen goods will increase.

Parental Control

‧ Although it might seem a little extreme, parents who want to monitor their children's behavior while they are not at home can consider using such hidden devices. Hidden cameras in the form of a high hung wall clock will offer a complete view of the living room, a hidden plant camera can be kept almost anywhere in the house in order to record the activities of your children. If you suspect that the children might be up to something that could harm them or someone else, this is one way in which you can gain more knowledge about their activities.

Take some cues from the internet as to what would be the ideal height to install the camera in your home or office place and where would the T.V. screen be kept etc. See that you buy a camera, which has the capability to capture high quality images, so that the smallest detail is not missed out by the camera because if the camera doesn't capture high quality images, it's a mere waste of time and money.
