The most obvious is to make sure your doors and windows are securely locked when you leave your property also when you go to bed at night. Having approved locks fitted gives you that extra security as old or worn out locks can easily be broken. Never leave keys in locks or underneath mats or flower pots.

Leaving lights on inside and outside of the house can be act as a deterrent for burglars. If you go out at night draw the curtains with the light left on or buy a timer switch if you know you are not going to be home till after dark.

If there is a neighbourhood watch in your area you should consider joining as you can then display a sign to say you are a member. If there isn't a watch in your area ask your neighbours to keep a regular check on your house especially if you are away for any period of time, and you could return the favour.

Your home security can be increased just by these few actions but a professional security system fitted is a wise decision to make for peace of mind.
