Spycams are one of the latest innovations in camera equipment and have found entry and popularity into households. During their inception, spycams were almost exclusively used by highly trained military officials and special government agents. The history of the spy camera dates back to military strategy and defense. The cameras would be planted by double agents in elevators, offices and meeting rooms to acquire information about the personal details or plans of enemies. The first spy camera was built in France in 1865 as a wooden camera measuring 1X 2/3 inches.

We have come a long way since the black and white spycams and with the perfection and refinement of technology; they are now used by police forces for drug peddlers or men who make illegal deals. Initially, the cameras were wired and placed in meeting rooms or places for capturing the video and audio of the entire transaction. The 1990s saw the invention of the nanny cameras which were popularly housed within the kids' items like teddy bears. These spycams were actually hooked to a VCR, and allowed parents to view the activities when they were away from home.

Working of Spycams

Spycams, which can be plugged into an outlet or wireless, capture images using a small lens and a tiny transmitter to reflect the signal on the receiver. The purpose of the receiver is to convert the small bits of digital information into a replica of the image hence captured for storing on to a disc or projection with the help of a Smartphone, TV screen or monitor. Today, these images captured from the spycams can be broadcast over the internet directly like the ones used in modern weather monitoring systems. The transmitter may be located 30 miles away and still transmit information to the receiver. Some spycams are available in a single piece and have built-in memory storage.

Modern technology is rapidly advancing which makes it conceivable to enable spycams to transmit frequencies and signals halfway around the world. The presence and easy availability of spycams has made it convenient for the layman to become a sort of CIA agent. Some of the spycams have monitoring devices lighter that a memory chip. Some devices can be imbedded in neck ties, clocks and wrist watches. Manufacturers offer different kinds of spycams in a variety of sizes and styles, with memory storage capabilities.

The extremely small spycams take videos that help you see the overall movement of people and events, images can have a poor resolution. So choose your camera carefully or you may not be able to discern the facial features or other intricate details if that is important to you. Most of the spycams have a built-in memory card which captures the recording. These cameras are often camouflaged as they may be stuffed inside teddy bears for kids or clock radios for universal room cloaking units. Most spycameras are available with wireless capacities.

Previously, the spycams had been the domains of intelligence and security agencies, but today they have entered our homes. These are affordable, put to extensive use, affordable and, with the progress of technology, the cameras are easy to install.
